Reeds by NOCH is a set of 16 plants in the Laser-Cut Minis range of scenery models. Reeds is item 14608 and scaled to N - 1/160.
Cattails/reeds can be found all over the world and not always in standing water. Notice the photo I shot from a train recently - the reeds are growing along side the railway track.
Laser-Cut Minis use laser technology to cut highly detailed models of flowers, reeds, cabbage, nettles, and other plants; colorful, unique shapes, with fine printed details. Whether used for N layouts or other dioramas, it is easy to create super-realistic flowerbeds, gardens and garden plots for your model landscape. Some are flocked with colored flower petals.
NOCH currently advertises more than two dozen of these sets in three scales: HO (1/87), TT (1/120), and N (1/160). These Reeds models are held in their paper while other mini-plants are ready to use. All can be planted right out of the package with a drop of glue.
Set 14608 Reeds is 16 plants lased into three "frets" (sheets) of textured pre-colored paper. The paper is fibrous and resists tearing. The plants are not "cookie cutter" models, they vary slightly in size and shape of the stalks and leaves. It took me about 10 minutes to remove the plants from their "frets", form them, and plant them.
The paper is printed with good random plant colors and patterns.
To plant the reeds, simply remove them from the paper "frets". Only two parts are actually attached to the frets, and the connector is easy to pull free. The paper is remarkably strong and resists my clumsy handling. Only two plant tops tore loose.
I rolled the plants across a toothpick tip to make the leaves and stem stand.
NOCH lased a common "root ball" between the stems in the middle. This allows a very simple method of setting the plants into whatever surface you desire.
NOCH scaled these to N - 1/160. Posed with NOCH N scale Bathers figures, these cattails look accurate in height.
NOCH Reeds, item 14608, Laser-Cut Minis is an excellent product to quickly and easily create a small stand of excellent looking water plants. It took me about 10 minutes to remove, shape, plant and photograph these reeds.
I have no meaningful criticism of this product and happily recommenced it.
Please remember to mention to NOCH and retailers that you saw these reeds here - on RailRoad Modeling.
Highs: Very easy to use.Lows: De minimis.Verdict: REEDS is a neat and quick set for modelers to use to make a nice patch of water plants.
