Introduction
Sandstone is a sheet of flexible embossed sheet of masonry from scenery specialist NOCH. Part of the Mauerplatte (embossed wall panels) series, this product affords modelers to modify existing models, or scratchbuild structures. Sandstone (Sandstein), item 57570, is one choice of many offerings.

Sandstone Wall
This sheet is made of a flexible product and has no packaging. It measures 32 cm x 15 cm / 12.6 (12 9/16th) inches x 6 inches. These sheets allow modelers to create retaining buttresses, property walls, and buildings, any masonry structure.

NOCH used photographs of actual sandstone walls to create the face. This replicates coloration which mimics mortar and subtle variations.

The low embossing creates mortar joint and rough stone textures. The sheet has a slight sheen that can be tones down by any number of paints, washes, clear coats and weathering powders.

Some of these sheets sport fine shading, so use care when you orient this sheet for vertical surfaces, or your scratchbuilt masterpiece may leaves you perplexed that something is not quite right.

Scale?
NOCH advertises it for HO - 1/87, and TT scales. TT is 1/100 to 1/120 depending on which side of the English Channel you are on. Regardless, the stones are various sizes and suitable for any scale. If you look up the other reviews of this product, you will see how the stones appear in scale with an HO train, a 1/87 French house, a 1/48 tank destroyer, and a 1/35 Tiger I.

Setting In Stone
NOCH Mauerplatte is very easy to work with. I am reconditioning a favorite 45-year-old railroad station and used it to demonstrate this product. After measuring the height of the stone facade, I cut it with a hobby knife along a metal straightedge. The sheet cut easily.

Next I taped this Sandstone sheet to the wall; the tape did not harm the faux sandstone surface upon removal. I used the model's window and door openings as my guide and cut away the sheet to create the opening. It was easy. The entire process you see took less than five minutes. Very easy. Common model glue did not harm the Mauerplatte.

conclusion
I think NOCH's Sandstone Wall is a very useful product for scratchbuilders and kitbashers. It is easy to work with and looks very authentic.

Sandstone Mauerplatte Sandstein is a quick and effective way to create stone work for your layout and diorama. Recommended.
