Since 1949, family owned Preiser KG produces an enormous selection ( 1,400 sets ) of figures, vehicle models and accessories for train layouts, dioramas, and professionals in architecture and engineering design concepts. This product range spans the scales from 1 /22.5 through 1/500. Best known amongst model railroaders in the scales of HO (1/87), N (1/160), Z (1 /220), several G scales (1 /22.5 through 1 /29) and 1 Gauge (1/32), Preiser is increasing their ever expanding product line with military figures and accessories from World War Two and the NATO / modern era.
These are in the popular military scales of 1/32, 1/35, 1/48, 1/72, 1/87, 1/144 and 1/350. They also produce civilians and soldiers dating back to Fredrich II of Prussia, the 1500's, the Normans, Vikings, Romans and even figures from the Winnetou novels.

Preiser items are awesome. While some of their sets are decades old and soft on detail, those of the past couple of generations have incredibly fine detail. In the smaller scales, the detail can be finer than the unaided eye can often appreciate.

A multitude of poses will cover practically any project envisioned. Several sets are multi-pose.

The vast majority of sets are hand painted. The hand painting assures no two items are identical. Even possessing several of the same set will rarely provide the same paint jobs, except for military uniforms, of course. Preiser does have a number of sets that are unpainted, this at a lower cost.

The Set

Ninety pieces molded in three colors make up this set. An impressive decal sheet is included. My set has an extra sprue of milk cans molded in blue, for a total of 108 pieces! I do not count these. You get 4 large crates, 8 medium crates, 8 small crates, 28 cartons of various sizes, 4 wooden kegs, 4 sacks, 4 bottle boxes, 8 milk cans, 8 small drums, 8 small cans, and 8 unidentified items. All of this comes packed in a lightweight colorful carton with taped flaps.

The molding of most of these pieces is somewhat soft. The barrels have board detail on their tops. The crates have board detail on their sides but lack any detail on the ends. The cans and drums have fine detail for latches and handles.

Slight flash and seam lines are evident, especially on the cans and drums. The small scale accentuates this. I spy no ejector marks or sink holes. The sprues are thick, as are many of the bridges to the parts.

While these are designed for 1/87 HO scale, they can be used for with any scale you wish, especially 1/72-1/76. Unless you are a rivet-counter, the cans and drums can pass for oil cans in larger scales. Crates and cartons are sized for any scale one wishes. The kegs and sacks probably would look odd in larger scales.
Whether you are looking to provision a civil or military vehicle or diorama, or load up a railroad station storeroom, this set is a full load, or at least a good start.

Preiser KG makes high quality models for practically any subject. The range of subjects and scales offers something for almost any modeler. Many of their sets will work for any setting, military or civil. They have great crossover potential. While some sets are expensive for what you get, most of their products are within a competitive price range.

I enjoy my versatile Preiser sets and recommend them.

About Frederick Boucher (JPTRR)

I'm a professional pilot with a degree in art. My first model was an AMT semi dump truck. Then Monogram's Lunar Lander right after the lunar landing. Next, Revell's 1/32 Bf-109G...cried havoc and released the dogs of modeling! My interests--if built before 1900, or after 1955, then I proba...
