The US Navy started to gain a world wide reputation after the Spanish American War. President Theodore Roosevelt made it a world wide fighting force with the Great White Fleet. This disc covers the US Navy from 1900 up until the late 1930’s.

The Disc…

The disc contains over 300 images of US Navy ships, shore facilities, and weapons. Now just a quick note, some of you might notice that this is a DVD, instead of a CD. The reason for this? Simple, DVD’s offer more storage space than that of a CD, so this means pictures will not have to be left off. Alright now let’s get back to the DVD.

Starting with images of the USS Alabama and ending with the USS Wyoming this disc covers a good amount of the major capital ships in the US Navy during the period covered. Of course not every ship is covered, but a good majority of the larger ships are well represented.

There are some very good shots of early US battleships wearing unique camo from World War I. Then you will come across different shots from navy yards around the country, Mare Island, New York, and Puget Sound.

USS Langley, USS Lexington, and USS Saratoga are also represented as they looked in the days leading up to World War II. Both cage masts and tri-pods are shown on the large US capital ships. Even fans of the smaller ships of the era will find some nice shots.

For those who have other discs in this series you know the quality of photos represented in those. Because of the age of the subject some of the photos here show some age and lack some clarity, but they are over 100 years old in some cases.

This disc is a great one to add to your library whether it is for modeling or for history.
Highs: Great source for some old school USN images in a small package
Verdict: Another great DVD with plenty of unique images from the old USN.
