New type! At the IAA (International Motor Show) 2010, the current Mercedes-Benz Axor rigid tractor was presented with a modified front.
Mercedes-Benz AxorSemitrucks dominate everything on the highway and they really make an impression when they are heavy duty types. Into this class Mercedes-Benz introduced their Axor.
The Axor is a truck manufactured by Mercedes-Benz designed to fill the gap between the premium Actros tractors and the mostly rigid Atego trucks and is targeted at fleet customers. The truck has a relatively simple manual gear-shift, or alternatively, the electronic paddle shift semi-automatic, is available, as well as a fully automatic box. The truck is powered by a 12 litre straight 6 engine.
Mercedes-Benz is presenting the latest version of the Axor. This is the only vehicle of its class to be fitted with the automatic PowerShift gearshift system from Mercedes-Benz as standard in Germany in the upper power range (360-430 hp). This system optimises fuel consumption and enhances the standard of comfort for the driver. Mercedes PowerShift helps to reduce the driver's workload in busy distribution operations and guarantees constant high gear-shifting quality throughout a long service life. The twelve-gear Mercedes PowerShift transmissions furthermore reduce the strain on clutch and drivetrain, thus minimising wear. Optimised for maximum utility value and featuring high-performance and markedly economical BlueTec engines in the power range from 175 kW (238 hp) to 315 kW (428 hp), the Mercedes-Benz Axor is a unique proposition in its class.
The Axor offers four cabs: S (Day cab), SE (Extended day cab), L (Sleeper cab), and LR (High Roof Sleeper cab). The tractor can be powered with several choices of Mercedes-Benz OM-series turbo-intercooled in-line
6 cylinder direct injection diesel engines, and choices for other components.
Herpa Mercedes-Benz Axor 2010 ZMThis is a 2010 4x2 Tractor Axor with the LR cab. Despite all of my research I cannot find reference as to what ZM signifies. The model is factory assembled except for the three optional mirrors. The tractor is securely packed in a form-fitted tray. The tray is held inside a red Herpa carton with a plastic film window, and opens via tabs at each end. The tray has slots for optional parts. A holographic Daimler license lable is attached to one end.
The Axor is skillfully molded and assembled. The only blemish is a tiny burr on the back of the cab. Doors, hoods, and access panel lines are defined with recessed lines, as is the grille. The door handles are recessed and are the retaining tabs for the cab interior. The windshield is surrounded by black chrome and detailed with wipers.
Soft tires with good tread detail mounted on detailed hubs support the model.
DetailingThe model features headlights and tail lights of appropriately colored clear lenses. Detail inside the passenger compartment includes a dashboard, steering wheel, gear shift, consoles and seats; this detail can be seen through the windows.
The tractor features separately applied side view mirrors. Windshield wipers detail the windshield. All of this detail is mounted upon a detailed chassis featuring suspension with front springs and rear airbag suspension, drivetrain, battery boxes, fuel tanks and cylinders. Mud guards, tread plates, and a fifth wheel detail the top. The wheels are molded of a soft plastic or rubber and feature remarkable tread detail. The front axle can be equipped for steering.
FinishThe model is molded in color, smooth and shiny. No decals are used.
Off the LotThis HO scale semitractor is a great model of a M-B Axor. It is certain to enhance any modern diorama or model railroad. Recommended.
