by: Randy L Harvey [ HARV ]

The Audi RS3 Sportback is powered by the 2.5-litre TFSI engine developing 250 kW (340 hp) and 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) which has been coupled with the seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission. The car is able to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and that it has a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The Audi RS3 Sportback comes with the quattro all-wheel-drive system, flared lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic wings, and a widened track, a McPherson strut front suspension system, rack-and-pinion steering and front and rear disc brakes.

The Herpa Audi RS3 (R) comes packed in a clear plastic form fitting carrier which sits in a paperboard insert which is inserted a light plastic box that opens on both ends.

Herpaís Audi RS3 (R) comes fully assembled and painted. I found no flaws in the assembly of the vehicle. The exterior is smooth and shiny and features fine recessed lines for doors and hoods and panels and has no flaws that I could see or find. Its chassis has basic molded detailed, the tires have no tread detail on the main tire itself, only on the outside edges of the tires, and the windshield, and all other glass is free of distortion and scratches. Individual clear lenses simulate the headlights and red tinted clear lenses are used for tail lights. The wheels have black plastic tires and chrome/silver rims. There are dual chromed exhaust pipes extending from under left side of the rear bumper which have drilled out ends for a realistic appearance. There are two side view mirrors and a rearview mirror. The side view mirrors are chromed and have realistic reflective surfaces. The rearview mirror does not have a silver color face to simulate reflective glass. The interior looks nice and features bucket seats, steering wheel, console, stick shift, emergency brake handle and nice dashboard detailing. The windshield wipers are molded in black at the base of the windshield. The spoiler on the back is nicely defined and has chrome ends along with the third brake light.

The model body is painted in a thin smooth glossy finish of tiefseeblau-perleffekt / deep sea blue. The molding and the underside are black in color while the interior is molded in grey. A nice touch is that the steering wheel is black even though the rest of the interior is grey. This adds a nice touch of realism. Herpa also offers the Audi RS3 (R) in rot / red. Audiís logo is chromed upon the detailed black and chrome grille. There are no decals in place on this car as Herpa does not use decals.

This Audi RS3 (R) is a nicely done model with fine plastic detail and great finishing. It has clear lenses for headlights and brake lights and detailed tires. The underside is nicely detailed. All the same this model should please modern model railroaders, railroad diorama builders, and scale car collectors. I would have no hesitation recommending this model to others.

Thanks to HERPA Miniaturmodelle GmbH for the review sample. Be sure to mention that you heard about it here when ordering.
Highs: Nicely done representation of the actual vehicle. Nice finish on the vehicles color. Plastic lenses for the headlights and taillights.
Lows: Only two color choices. Rearview mirror lacks a reflective surface. No tread detail on the tires.
Verdict: A nicely done model with fine plastic detail and great finishing which represents the Audi RS3 (R) nicely.
