Rock Pieces Granite, 3 pcs.
Item: 58451
Medium: Structural hard foam

NOCH produces this granite rock formation set of structural hard foam. It is lightweight, easy to work, and mimics shapes, textures and coloring of granite boulders and cliffs.

Rock Pieces Granite, 3 pcs.
This set of rock pieces is made of crisp hard foam. The title states "3 pieces" although there are five rocks. These granite rocks are part of a "sprue' sheet that contains all five pieces. The sheet is packaged in a poly bag held shut by a card label.

The dark gray foam is light weight yet sturdy. NOCH molded it with sparkly flecks. I am not a Petrologist so I do not know if it is too dark;
    Granite is a light-colored igneous rock with grains large enough to be visible with the unaided eye. It forms from the slow crystallization of magma below Earth’s surface. Granite is composed mainly of quartz and feldspar with minor amounts of mica, amphiboles and other minerals. This mineral composition usually gives granite a red, pink, gray or white color with dark mineral grains visible throughout the rock.*

Regardless, the surface detail quality of the molds is excellent. The rocks are very easy to break the base from. The resulting shards can be used for other scenic purposes, perhaps sedimentary cliff faces? These solid rocks are very light and thus will not upset the weight and balance of small dioramas, let along train layouts.

If you don't like the color, this foam should take acrylic paint easily.

I am very impressed with the surface detail of these rocks. The color seems dark to me yet some images of granite I have found appear dark, too.

The pieces are easily removed from the base. It's light weight. I am very impressed with this structural foam scenery and happily recommend it.
