1⁄1Twelve Locomotives and a Train
Twelve Locomotives and a Train
Big trains - so long (pardon the pun) as they aren't blocking my highway - are awesome to watch. Here's a train pulled by a parade of 12 locomotives.I stumbled across this "unicorn" while visiting the sights around the Kentucky railroad town of Corbin. I found a safe pull-off along the highway and caught this astounding consist as it thundered north out of Corbin, across the Laurel River. (Sorry about the wires and poles.)
I do not believe all the locomotives were pulling. Most of the power were probably being repositioned as pooled equipment, leased equipment, or as 'run-through arrangements' or "horsepower hours" (hphrs) redistribution.
For the first time ever I chased the train. I found an overpass but I was too rushed to get consistent good shots. Regardless, I was able to salvage a few dozen images of the train charging up the route of "The Old Reliable" - the storied Louisville & Nashville.
Here are a couple of good links concerning this stretch of the L&N.
